Here at Cruiser’s we believe in fast, friendly service and serving the best pit beef in Maryland. We know time is a valuable thing so we like to get you in and out as quickly as we can without risking the quality of our food. We strive to create a welcoming and fun environment for our employees and customers.
Grilling our meats daily allows us to keep our meats moist, fresh and full of flavor. We only grill our meats over hardwood charcoal. Pit beef is an iconic food of Baltimore and we are having a blast serving it up here in Edgemere- Cruiser Style!!!!
Cruiser started in the pit beef business when he was a teenager. He started his career working for Michael DiCarlo at the famous Big Al’s pit beef on Pulaski highway back in the early 80’s. Darrell worked in a 12 foot by 12-foot pit beef stand with a bunch of other teenagers. He could barely see out of the window, and earned just $20, but he didn’t care. It was fun!
After his stint behind the pit, Darrell spent some time working at Act 2 dinner theater, Hammer Jacks, DiPasquale's and Brittan's Pit beef just to name a few. In his mid-20’s he took his first shot at entrepreneurship. He opened the first Cruiser’s at the fireside inn and a second location on Bel Air rd. The same year his daughter Autumn was born!
For a few years he left the food industry and worked in construction while playing in varies bands as lead vocalist and keyboard player. In his late 30’s Darrell reentered the food industry working as a journeymen meat cutter and meat manager at Giant grocery stores. A few years later Darrell came to the realization that he no longer wanted to work for corporate America, so he made the decision to take a second shot at entrepreneurship.
He originally wanted to open what is now known as Cruiser’s pit beef as a butcher shop. However, during the buildout of that shop his wife, Jen, reminded Darrell of his teenage years selling pit beef, and suggested he open a pit beef stand. She said, “We haven’t had anything like that here since Brittan's pit beef, so why not do that as we work on the inside?” So, Darrell set up a pit, built a fence, propped up a table, borrowed a slicer, rented a fryer. His wife, friends and family helped him serve the crowds on the weekends. “I didn't even advertise. I just let the smoke roll across the neighborhood, calling to people,” And we’ve been rocking out the pit beef ever since!!
All the food is great. Turkey has never been my favorite until here! The pit turkey is awesome!
By far my favorite pit beef in the area! The pit beef soup is so delicious and is soul warming, definitely a comfort food. I also love the bird dog, others in my family love the pit beef platter. We honestly haven't met anything there we don't like and everyone we have encountered has been incredibly friendly and kind.

So far this is my favorite family business in the sparrows point / Edgemere area. I am not a big pit beef fan, however my favorite menu items so far are the road runner eggs & the cheese steak. In addition, It is hard to beat their hospitality.
